History of massive
Straight out of the bowels of the earth, Esterel was born there 250 millions d'années. First attached to Africa, this piece of land separates during the formation of the Mediterranean. In the era Tertiaire, a piece of Esterel share the same drift, Corsica is born! For some clear morning, you can even see in the distance from the heights.
The rugged terrain, landscapes jagged and steep creeks plunging into the Mediterranean reflect this turbulent geological history and providesurprising and varied landscapes. The Legend of Esterel
Legend has it that the fairy Estérelle, that women were consulted for fertility, is the origin of its name. More likely, during movement of tectonic plate, the earth is cracked deeply leaving the washing up to the surface and thus giving birth to the purple rock, la rhyolithe (ou porphyre rouge). Vehicles are allowed on about 42 Km de route, circuits have been built for mountain biking (100 Km de mountain biking Marked), riders (100 Km of slopes equestrian) and for hikers (40 Miles of hiking trails).
