Puget sur Argens

Puget sur Argens is located in the heart of nature and at the gateway to the Mediterranean. The town offers many activities such as hiking, mountain biking, equestrian sports... Many castles and wineries are located around the village where a Provençal atmosphere prevails.

The history of Puget sur Argens

The city takes its name from the eminence on which the ancient village was built (from the Latin podium, mound). Villa pogito was mentioned in 990. The occupation in the Iron Age and Roman times is documented but no remains are visible today, except for the milestone used as a holy water font in the 17th century church. The gate and the clock tower (1776) facing the church square, locate the old ramparts. To the southwest, the Béal, an abandoned canal dug in the 16th century by Craponne to bring the water from the Argens to the old port of Fréjus, is visible near the disused tile factory. Many remains can be found in all neighbourhoods.
