Port Tonic Art Center

PTAC is the only art centre on the Gulf of Saint Tropez to support and exhibit contemporary artists.

Description

Located on Les Issambres seafront, all year round the centre hosts young French and international artists who take inspiration during their stay on the Côte d’Azur.

Created as a private initiative in 2013, this non-profit making organisation attracts contemporary art enthusiasts and collectors from the local area and from abroad.

In an exceptional setting facing the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the Esterel mountains mid-way between nice and Toulon, the centre occupies the 4,000 m² premises of a former shipyard with architectural lines in the spirit of Le Corbusier.

Port Tonic Art Center in the Gulf of Saint Tropez supports contemporary art and promotes creativity, attracting artists from both France and abroad.

Artists’ residence:

Every year. Port Tonic Art Center welcomes 6 to 8 French or international artists who are selected by a small committee made up of the association’s members. The association’s active members can also present potential candidates that they may have spotted at international fairs or collector meetings. To present a project proposal, a candidate has to be the winner of an international competition and their work must already be promoted by an art gallery.

Left to their own inspiration and free to soak up the vibes of the venue and the coastal light, the artists who stay here enjoy a liberating experience of creative self-reflection, unhindered by the constraints of daily life.

Since 2016, Port Tonic Art Center has hosted live-in artists from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Korea and America, and is soon to welcome others from Tunisia, Malaysia and Uruguay.

Thanks to the support of the art galleries that support the live-in artists, Port Tonic Art Center provides free accommodation for the selected candidates, as well as help with funding the creations they produce during their stay.

The vast studios and workshops mean that priority can be given to sculptors, especially to those working on monumental pieces.

Port Tonic strives constantly to raise the necessary funding to accommodate their artists.
