The Flowering of Mimosa in Tanneron, Pays de Fayence

Tanneron is the town with the most flowers in mimosa, with its veritable "yellow forests".
It is the largest area planted with mimosa, both cultivated and wild in France!
KM 112 of the Route du Mimosa.

Description

Mimosa is mainly cultivated in southern Australia, South Africa and southern France.
800 species listed but 1200 species must exist.

History:
Around 1800, the mimosa, native to Australia, made its appearance on the slopes of the Croix des Gardes, in Cannes, introduced by English visitors and quickly established themselves on the neighboring massif.
Mimosa grows very well on the slopes of the Massif de Tanneron, around the villages of Tanneron, Mandelieu and Pégomas.

Mimosa cultivation in the municipality of Tanneron, Terre de Mimosa is today one of the most beautiful jewels of this endearing town in the Pays de Fayence.
The massif is home to 200 hectares of trees of the acacia genus and the order of mimosea.
These little fluffy balls, bright yellow, so fragrant are beautiful to see in their natural environment.
They bloom from December to March.
However, February remains the best month to come and enjoy the flowering of the mimosa in the wild.

Botanical:
Three varieties of mimosa (Acacia Dealbata- winter mimosa): Gaulois, Mirandole and Rustica grow on the Tanneron massif, on acidic, well-drained and dry soil.

Le Gaulois: large vigorous tree with dark green foliage, bipinnately divided leaves, abundant flowering of a sulfur yellow, which emerges widely from late January to March.

Mirandole: large, light green, bipinnate leaves, flowering in large clusters of pure, brilliant yellow, from late December to February.

The Rustica: beautiful evergreen, bluish foliage. Its hardiness offers an inflorescence in many bright yellow pompoms. Very fragrant, the hermaphroditic flowers appear between December and March.

The small pompoms, called glomeruli, velvety golden yellow are gathered in a bouquet and are hung directly on the stem.

The light green sometimes bluish foliage is decorative all year round and sometimes reminds the leaves of ferns.

Mimosas are resistant to temperatures ranging from -5 ° C (Acacia retinoides known as Mimosa of the four seasons) to -10 ° C (Acacia dealbata known as Winter Mimosa).
