Avant d’alimenter le lac de St Cassien, la rivière biançon coule sous l’ancien pont. Le long de cette rivière se trouve la première source captée par les romains pour Fréjus et ses aqueducs ! Le paysage est constitué d’une mosaïque d’endroits différents. Cette diversité permet au site d’abriter de nombreux oiseaux migrateurs, des tortues aquatiques, une forêt particulière, c’est donc tout naturel que ce soit une réserve.
