Décors d’antan, accessoires décoratifs, santons à peindre ou aux différents styles, réalisés à partir d’argile rouge ou de rakku, pièces de collection… un large horizon d’objets décoratifs, représentant l’époque provençale d’antan, la traditionnelle « scène de la nativité », centrale dans les crèches de Noël, mais aussi des figurines plus contemporaines.
Si les premiers santons datent du XIIIe siècle, créés par Saint-François d’Assise, ce sont les moines franciscains qui introduisirent la crèche en Provence, dès la fin du XVIIIe siècle.
Les provençaux ont largement contribué à l’extension des crèches.
C’est en 1820 que Louis Lagnel réalise le premier santon façonné dans l’argile, et en 1830 que la première foire aux santons à lieu sur La Canebière à Marseille… avec trois exposants.
Depuis cette époque, les santonniers ont fait preuve de beaucoup d’imagination en intégrant, aux personnages bibliques, des personnages de la vie commune.
Aujourd’hui encore, ces minutieux artistes respectent une charte de qualité en accord avec la fabrication d’antan.
