Jusqu’en 1959, les Fréjusiens se réunissaient au centre-ville et venaient jusqu’ici en procession par ce qui n’était encore qu’un chemin, aujourd’hui, le départ se fait du rond-point à l’entrée du lotissement. Calèche tirée par un cheval, ânes de Provence, peuple de Fréjus et bravadeurs brandissant leur fidèle mousquet, pour aller chercher le buste de Saint-Pons, fils d’un sénateur romain et patron des laboureurs.
Coups de fusils, galoubets et tambours, la procession est lancée le curé va en premier lieu bénir les animaux, mais aussi les champs et la nature, hé oui ! bénir c’est dire merci et demander du bien.
La troupe, d’une cinquantaine de personnes, reprend son chemin jusqu’à la chapelle pour la messe et pour continuer en beauté la traditionnelle danse de la souche avant de se consacrer aux agapes.
Apéritifs, repas et bal populaire constituent la suite des festivités.
